The good people of Notre Dame Church have been reaching out to people in need locally, nationally and globally for decades. Here are a few of our outreach projects:
The Giving Tree-Every Advent, we decorate one of our Christmas trees with wish tags from those in need in local Shelters, Domestic Abuse refuges, hospitals and other institutions. We ask our parishioners to pick a tag, buy the item requested on the tag and return it to the parish. Our wonderful volunteers go to each institution before Christmas and distribute the gifts. Our response to this annual tradition is always overwhelming! People like to help people.
Outreach to Haiti-Outreach to Haiti is not only an important cause near and dear to the hearts of our parishioners, but a diocesan-wide cause, as well. Many of our parishioners have traveled to Haiti to bring much-needed supplies, aide and manpower. There seems to be no end to the needs of these resilient people with Mother Nature and a poor government structure always interferring. Notre Dame Church sponsors two Haitian children to attend school.
Supportive Housing Initiative-http://svdmiddletown.org/housing.html-Our parish and community in conjucntion with St. Vincent de Paul Place in Middletown, have helped furnish several apartments to ensure that individuals that were homeless for many years have everything they need to be comfortable in their new homes.
Wreaths Across America-Our church does annual fundraising to support wreaths to be placed at the State Veteran's Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown on the second Saturday of December.
Members of our Catholic Outreach also assist in Confirmation and First Holy Communion receptions as well as after-funeral receptions. They are a small, but dedicated group of individuals who are always looking for new members.
