The Durham Fair is one of the Annual attractions in which Notre Dame is very much involved. Many of the volunteers, workers, and directors are our own parishioners. Every year, it is a time that all adults, as well as children look forward to having fun and laughter and enjoying the food of many nationalities. It is a four day event, always held on the last weekend of September. Every year, hundreds of people pass through the Parish of Notre Dame to the gates of The Durham Fair Grounds. Approximately 250,000 to 300,000 tickets are sold to attend the Fair. People are interested and attracted by the variety of entertainment offered them.
Notre Dame Church has a booth at the Fair at a center location on the grounds. Many Church members and other volunteers help out to insure its success. Our Religious Education students also give many hours of help at this booth. There is a great sense of family and community during Fair Time! We even celebrate Mass on the Fairgrounds on Sunday morning at 7 am in the Photography Building!
The booth, of course is an important part of fundraising for the church where one can also enjoy our famous meatball, chicken parmesan and sausage grinders. We also serve spaghetti dinner, breakfast sandwiches, waffles with strawberries and whipped cream and beverages.
The beauty and safety of the Durham Fair is that no alcoholic beverages are permitted any where on the grounds. It is a family atmosphere where parents feel free and at peace for their children. Exhibits include a variety of birds, animals, the popular horse pulling, and fun educational activities. The music is an attraction for all people young and old.
